The Case for Personal Training and Attending Camp
|
Over the past several decades the phrase "lifelong learner" has become an important part of the lexicon of society. Obviously children attend school each day whether public, private or at home so they may gain a knowledge base and be able to function on a continual increasing level. Many of those students then matriculate onto college campuses where their training is intensified and magnified. Those that are successful move on to careers that in many cases are limitless. Once they move into those jobs, companies spend millions of dollars each year for additional training so the skills of the staff may be improved. People who work part time, those at minimum wage through the highly skilled and talented in top level positions never stop learning. The ones who understand that they really never have enough training and education are the ones that have a greater chance of reaching their potential. Those who think they know it "all" will never know what they don't know. Those who don't continue to get instruction and improve don't stay long.
Kickers and punters in the NFL, the epitome of those using their skill set, never stop training. The irony, I often see, is the situation where a high school or college kicker that has achieved some success thinks he knows all there is about kicking or punting when the "real" top level kickers and punters constantly seek instruction looking for that edge.
Most kickers and punters (and their parents) are under the impression that when they move on to college or the NFL that they will have their own coach who will be able to give them the same attention the quarterbacks, receivers, and even the linemen get. In most cases this is not true. At many colleges the coach assigned to the specialists often is a coach assigned to some other position and many of the specialists wind up doing what they did in high school, practicing on their own. So where does the improvement occur? Let's face it, some people are stubborn and think they can't get it on their own. Eventually they are left behind. You can read books and practice harder or get information from one of the other kickers, but this is all second hand information. The best route is to seek out those that can help you. This is what those big corporations do. They go out and find the most talented instructors and provide schooling for their employees.
You can do this for yourself. In most cases, you are not going to have a coach telling you what to do; you are going to need to find one on your own. Camps and private instruction are available in many locations, but please do your research first. Not all camps really provide instruction. Not all private instruction is worth the time or money so get information first.
The camps staffed by instructors at Before U Kick each have more than 10 years in the business. All have been successful kickers/punters or coaches or both. All of them are still coaching and have the same philosophy; everyone who wants to learn can be taught and that kicking instruction is approached like school. Each coach begins with fundamentals, does drill work, implements a variety of techniques and most important teaches each kicker/punter to learn to be their own coach. All coaches are interested in helping. Everyone will receive the best instruction they can get and all levels from beginner to elite are coached. Before U Kick is about instruction. If you are searching to improve and move on to the next level this is the place to be.
